25th April 2020 was World Malaria Day.
Malaria continues to be a serious disease throughout the region where REAP is working. We continue to promote the growing and using of Artemisia annua as the best treatment for malaria and something that is potentially very accessible for those living in areas where the climate is suitable for it.
We use it as a whole plant infusion that has a lot more than just the Artemisinin that the pharmaceutical companies extract from the plant. This is what makes it more effective than tablets and there is no known incidence of a disease gaining resistance to a whole plant remedy.
Artemisia is also very beneficial for the immune system.
We have been promoting and using it for many years and it has no know negative side effects and can do no harm. We therefore believe that it is a herb very beneficial for managing Covid19.
We do not talk about it as a ‘cure’, as this misrepresents what it does, but it is something that we believe is very helpful in both reducing the spread and managing those who are infected. We are therefore actively promoting the much wider growing of Artemisia through those that we have trained over the years, and pray that this difficult time will have the benefit of establishing Artemisia as a normal plant in many of the communities that we touch.
